The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC) held the culmination programme of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 at the MMC conference hall on October 2, marking the conclusion of a month-long cleanliness drive aimed at promoting environmental awareness and fostering cleanliness at both individual and community levels.

Chumlamo Humtsoe, ADC and CEO of MMC, who also served as the Captain of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024, presented a report on the journey of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024. He highlighted the active participation of citizens, the dedication of sanitation workers, and the overall success of the cleanliness campaign. Humtsoe praised the ward authorities for their various initiatives and encouraged them to continue their noble work.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement of the results for the “Waste to Art” competition, where innovative art pieces made from waste materials were showcased. Allen Mark Longkumer, the convenor of the competition, announced Lijaba Lijen as the first prize winner, with Aongza Ward and Sangtemla Ward securing the second and third prizes, respectively.

Aien Amri, Brand Ambassador for SHS 2024, took the stage to announce the Best Performing Ward. Aongza Ward emerged as the winner, receiving a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a certificate of appreciation.

The programme was chaired by Kilepchiba, Sanitation Inspector and Nodal Officer for the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), MMC. The event began with an invocation led by Lolentsoba, Superintendent of MMC, and concluded with a vote of thanks from Lanuakum, Deputy Chairperson of MMC. The event was attended by MMC councillors, ward chairmen, ward sanitation committee convenors, and MMC sanitation workers, all of whom played a crucial role in the success of the cleanliness drive.

During the programme, it was also announced that Mokokchung Municipal Council had been awarded the title of Best Performing Urban Local Body (ULB) in the state at a ceremony held in the state capital, Kohima.
