The much anticipated face off between Nagaland and Chandigarh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 on January 11 had to be abandoned as heavy showers rendered the ground conditions unfit for the match.

The Plate group match of the Trophy was supposed to be played at the Guru Nanak College Ground, Chennai on January 11.

Speaking to The Morung Express, Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) Honorary Secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing informed that due to wet outfield, the match had to be abandoned. Nagaland and Chandigarh were awarded two points each.

They are currently behind Sikkim, Bihar and Manipur who have won their first match, accumulating 4 points each in the Plate group table. In the second round of the Plate group match, Nagaland will be facing Arunachal Pradesh on January 13 at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai.

The Nagaland Team is being led by Captain Jonathan Rongsen and head coach Kawaljeet Singh.

Thereafter, the team will face Sikkim, Mizoram and Manipur on January 15, 17 and 19.  The top team of the group will qualify for the knock out round at Ahmedabad.
