Wokha, December 8 (MExN): The Wokha District Legal Services Authority, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Wokha BAR Association and Lotha Eloe Hoho organized a one day symposium on consumer rights in Lotha language on December 8 at VDB conference hall, Wokha.
It was stated in a DIPR report that while giving introductory remark, Chairman, Wokha District Legal Services Authority & District Judge Wokha, Nino Iralu said, “it is our duty to identify the citizens and victims who are need of the rights and connect them to Legal Services Para Legal Volunteers and Lawyers and to the Nodal departments and court.”
ADC Wokha, Mhathung Tsanglao, while delivering the keynote address stated that every consumer should check the manufacturing dates and MRP while buying goods or products to verify its authenticity and always insist for registered cash memo and not to pay above the prescribed MRP. “In case of detection of any manipulation or anomalies one should always consult the rightful agencies to get their problems redressed legally instead of taking law in their own hand,” he stated.
Resource person, Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Wokha, T. Aimong, while dwelling on the useful hinds of the consumer told the gathering to verify the net weight printed on the package, verify the date of expiry printed and always buy standard products marked. He also stated ask the seller to remove the defect or deficiency or to replace the goods.
Limathung Ezong, speaking on Consumer Protection Act stated to protect the consumer from abuse, provide venue for grievance or redress and ensure better quality of living by improving the quality of consumer products and services. W.Rainbow M Ngullie spoke on Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (welfare beneficial legislation) where he suggested certain procedures to be followed by the car owners like maintenance of required necessary documents to be kept available so that in case of any accidents owners can claim for compensations.
President Wokha BAR Association, Oren Humtsoe, speaking on consumer awareness and redressal forum said that it was through the initiative of the Government of India for empowerment of women such kind of programme was initiated.
More than 200 women leaders and representatives from various colonies attended the function.
