Kohima, April 29 (MExN): Table Top Exercises in preparation for the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) 2026 were conducted across Nagaland on April 28.
As part of the exercise, district authorities also attended a virtual conference relayed from the State Emergency Operation Centre at Capital Convention Centre, organised by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority under the Home Department.
Among others, Sentiyanger Imchen addressed the event, which aimed to assess preparedness and strengthen coordination among departments and agencies ahead of the mock drill scheduled for April 30.
According to updates from the State DIPR, the exercises were conducted across the state by the respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs).
In Dimapur, designated observers, site in-charges and volunteers attended the session held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Purana Bazar. The session focused on response strategies, inter-agency coordination, communication systems, and stakeholder responsibilities during emergencies. Key locations identified for the mock drill included the DC Office, Government Higher Secondary School Purana Bazar, Hollotoli School Naharbari, Westside Store Darogapathar, Indian Oil (IOCL) Kevijau, and PHC Purana Bazar.
At Peren, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Hiazu Meru highlighted roles under the Incident Response System (IRS) and stressed inter-departmental coordination and timely response.
Officials said the simulation is based on a 7.7 magnitude earthquake with its epicentre at Piphema, placing Peren district within a 30 km impact zone.
In Zunheboto, Dharam Raj and heads of offices virtually attended the conference from Kohima.
At Noklak, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman P Mono Khiamniungan briefed officials on NEPEx and IRS roles, while ADC and CEO DDMA Relise Sangtam outlined the mock drill scenario and logistics.
In Longleng, DC and DDMA Chairman W Manpai Phom said the scale of disaster preparedness exercises has been enhanced this year and described the drill as an opportunity to identify gaps in response systems. Four locations have been identified for the exercise.
In Tseminyu, a Table Top Exercise was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall on April 29, where officials discussed resource inventory, incident scenarios, IRS roles and responsibilities, and final preparations for the April 30 mock drill.
