The Pfutsero public on Monday plead Governor PB Acharya to take necessary measure regarding the deplorable road condition of NH-29 especially Kohima- Pfutsero- Jessami.

In a representation submitted to the Governor during a brief function at Pfutsero on his two day visit to Phek district (September 12-13), the Pfutsero Town Citizens’ Welfare Forum, Head GB Pfutsero town, Pfutsero Town Colony Chairmen Union and Pfutsero Mothers’ Association stated that Pfutsero town is a commercial and educational hub of the Phek district. The town is well connected to the state capital Kohima (70 km), the district headquarter Phek (72 km) and Tadubi in Manipur 35 kms.

It is one of the main tourist destinations in the state with numerous scenic places. The whole sub division has been declared as organic zone. The vegetables and fruit products of the area are supplied all over the state and outside. While highlighting these, it drew the attention of the Governor on the deplorable and pathetic road condition of the National Highway-29 from Dimapur to Jessami in Manipur, especially Kohima-Pfutsero-Jessami stretch which has left in sheer neglect by the BRO making it a nightmare both for the motorists as well as the passengers.

The representation stated that RCC Bridge near Chakhabama collapsed back in 2007 and the bridge constructed between Mesulumi and Enhulumi was abruptly left off without any rhyme or reason and till now, no remedial measures have been taken.

It further stated that a work order amounting to Rs. 1.48 crores for upgradation of the KM 62.0 to 67.5 in the vicinity of Pfutsero town was approved by the MoST and NH Government of India way back on 2011 but no visible work was carried out by the BRO till date.

Fortunately, the representation stated that through the initiation of local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary for Planning & Coordination, Monitoring Cell & Evaluation and Taxes Neiba Kronu and concerned citizens and youth bodies, the stretch of NH-29 within the vicinity of Pfutsero town had been widened and drainage earthworks completed. However, fund constraints have thrown a spanner in the works.

Stating that since the upgradation and upkeep of NH 29 is the sole responsibility of the BRO, it urged that the earlier work order must be executed immediately and black topping along with concretization of drainage of the recently widened road must be completed at the earliest while the work of the remaining portion also should be looked after as no work whatsoever has been carried out except filling of some potholes during the monsoons.

It prayed that the prompt and positive gestured of Governor in this regard “will be highly appreciated and ease the sufferings of the people of the area.”
