Talk on ‘constructivism as an approach to constructive education’ conducted

Kohima, April 25 (MExN): A talk on ‘constructivism as an approach to constructive education’ was held at Ura College of Teacher Education, Kohima, organised by Nagaland Education Association with Dr. Zavise Rume, President, Nagaland Education Association (NEA) as the resource person on April 25.  

Sessions were held on Conceptual Background of Constructivism as an approach to Education and Education Policies, Implications and Practical Approach to Constructivism which was followed by an interactive session.  

The programme was chaired by Marla, Assistant Professor UCTE. It was attended by Principal, teaching faculty, B.Ed and M.Ed Trainees.  

A press note said “Constructivism talks about believe that a child has the ability to construct his own knowledge where teacher acts as a facilitator providing suitable environment for the child. This approach also believes that children are the original constructor of knowledge. Their knowledge is acquired through active participation or involvement in the social settings: to mention few, group discussion, group work, role play and literary and symposiums etc. The main focus of the lecture was however on one primary thought: social interaction.”  

Constructivist strongly believes in the autonomy of the child. It is child-centred-approach.  Both scholastic and co-scholastic is focused and infused for the development of all round of the child.  

The resource person also digs and highlighted educational policies on, NPE 1986, NCF 2000, NCF 2005 and NPE 2016 which has much mention on constructivism approach, stated a press release issued by Rhutsomu Angelo Pfithu, Vice President, B.Ed Trainees’ Union, UCTE.
