The tussle between the BJP and the NPF to run the Autonomous District Council (ADC) of Tamenglong continues on Thursday with the former claiming majority in the council and calling the other side “illegitimate.”
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club here, the BJP members in Tamenglong Autonomous District Council (ADC) said that the “present strength of the Autonomous District Council, Tamenglong as on the day of this communiqué is 25 members inclusive of the two nominees”.
According to the ADC members, the BJP members of the ADC, Tamenglong are 15 in number while the NPF led present “illegitimate” comprises only of 9 members whereby the BJP led majority members moved a “no-confidence motion” against the incumbent chairman Namsinrei Panmei, vide meeting proceeding dated 15-01-2018 as per section 23 of the ADC rules and regulations of which the issue is still pending a conclusive decision vide W.P ( C ) No. 31 of 2018 before the High Court of Manipur”.
The ADC members said, thus, “a crystal clear scenario” of the ADC, Tamenglong has come for all to gauge” regarding the strength of the “majority and minority” parties thereby making it “absolutely illegitimate for the minority party” to claim for running the ADC.
The BJP ADC members of Tamenglong then alleged that, “without any regards reverence of chapter IV of the procedure and staffs of district councils article 32 (sub clause 2) regarding the removal of chief executive officer of the ADC, Tamenglong the incumbent chairman has repeatedly alleged through various platforms (the fourth estate/visual media) to transfer the CEO by leveling unwarranted charges”.
“If at all he claims to be the chairman, he can convene a meeting whereby a resolution for the removal of the CEO can be passed by a majority of not less than two-third of the total membership of the council”, the BJP ADC members stated.
The 15 ADC members of the BJP then said they “stand firm in safeguarding the district council manual bill, rules and registrations in order to ensure a judicious quotient for the public of Tamenglong district without aligning with any individual or cheap political gimmicks”.
The members also appealed the State Government of Manipur for an early “judicious decision to quash all misunderstandings of the public as the writ petition No.31 of 2018 has also become in-fructuous as per notification No 2/14/2018 Legal, Imphal 24th March, 2018 thereby enabling the Government of Manipur for adhering to strict government procedures for the formation of a new governance of Autonomous District Council of Tamenglong”.
