Tamlu CSOs allege data tampering, unjust teacher transfers

Dimapur, November 10 (MExN): Civil society organisations (CSOs) from the Tamlu area, comprising Tamlu village, Tamlu Khel, Tamlu town, Kangching, Namsang and Anaki Khel, have accused the Directorate of School Education (DSE) Nagaland of “tampering enrollment data” and carrying out “unjustified with-post transfers of teachers,” which they said are severely affecting education in their area.

In a joint representation submitted to the Directorate, the CSOs said that “the Directorate of School Education Nagaland in recent times is witnessing unjustified with-post transfer of teachers in various schools which is consequently hindering the progress of students and school in general.” They added, “It is disappointing to know the prevalence of malpractices within the department.”

The organisations alleged two major irregularities — manipulation of enrollment data and with-post transfer of teachers. They claimed that “as per the TAMS data 2025, it is evident that the Directorate of School Education has tampered enrollment records by significantly lowering students’ enrolment in all the schools under Tamlu jurisdiction.” The statement alleged that this was done to “support their administrative decisions that would otherwise appear unjustifiable.”

“The school enrollment data has been purposely altered to support their administrative decisions that would otherwise appear unjustifiable,” the representation said.

On the issue of teacher transfers, the organisations said, “Eventually, teachers have been transferred along with sanctioned post from several schools. Consequently, leading to these schools with very few teaching staff.”

The organisations said they were seeking “proper scrutiny with transparency regarding the tampering of enrollment data.” They asserted that “these malpractices have led to the transferring out of teachers with post, resulting in shortage of teachers’ manpower.” They added that “certain schools have repeatedly appealed the concerned authority for redeploying subject teachers viz. English, Hindi and Science but inspite of hearing to the plea, due department is transferring out subject teachers with post regularly.”

The representation listed that subject teachers had been transferred from schools in Tamlu Town, Tamlu Village B, Kangching, and Anaikhai Phom Khel, resulting in staff shortages. “These transfers have left the schools with very few teaching staff,” the organisations said, adding that “it is most obviously evident that this decision is adversely affecting the educational cause and purpose of schools and pupils.”

The CSOs further stated that “the following schools have been requesting the department for subject teachers: GHS Buranamsang (English and Hindi) and GHS Tamlu Khel (English and Science). But, no positive response till date. The schools are running without these subject teachers for the past few years.”

Despite these challenges, the organisations acknowledged the dedication of teachers who have stayed on. The organisations demanded that the Directorate provide “clarification and ratification” on the issue. and warned that “failing which" they would take measures leading to sealing of all the schools.
