UKHRUL, AUGUST 22 (MExN): The Tangkhul apex organization under the aegis of the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), taking serious note of the “Quit Notice” served by the NSCN (K) to all the Tangkhul as published in some section of the press, an emergency meeting was called into motion and the Tangkhul churches prayed for the issues as directed by the TNL. Apprehensive of the repeat of 1994-95 episode in which scores of innocent Tangkhuls were killed by the NSCN (K) including prominent civil leaders and government servants, a public meeting of all the Tangkhul was convened shortly, said the TNL President, Stephen Angkong.
After convening an emergency meeting with all the Tangkhul apex organizations viz, TMNL, TSL, TKS and other at TTA complex on August 15 last, the meeting resolved to consult with other Naga organizations of various Naga regions based in Manipur and Nagaland to thrash out the matter and thwart any attempt at jeopardizing the unity of the Nagas and the success of the Indo-Naga peace process. Ruling out any Tangkhul leaving Nagaland as a reason of threat, Stephen asserted that any such move is tantamount to showing defeat and disunity of the Nagas which is bound to have serious consequences on the unity of the Nagas as a whole. Asked on the possibility of the threat coming into effect, Angkang said that with the support of the various Naga organizations in their respective regions, there is no way that such bloodshed would be allowed in their domain.
Angkang said the right stand and concrete course of measure would be adopted and a mission embarked upon as per the decision of the Tangkhul public meeting to be held yet. The meeting also deliberated why the issue of NBSE affiliation was included in the quit notice and discussed the ‘conspiracy’ angle with the NSCN (K) promoting the interest of the Manipur government and valley based UGS.
