TASU suspends proposed rally and protest

Submits list of demands to Tobu SDEO before meeting

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 24 (MExN): The Tobu Area Students Union (TASU) has submitted a list of demands to the Sub Divisional Education Officer, Tobu ahead of their August 29 meeting with regard to the status of the education sector in the area. The TASU withheld its proposed rally and decision to seal off the SDEO office following a letter from the officer to hold a meeting on August 29.

In a letter to the SDEO, the TASU demanded that office infrastructure and necessary documents must be maintained. Office infrastructure and equipments such as computer sets, all the official documents of the teachers such as service book should be in place on August 29 at the office, it stated. The TASU said that many of the staff are keeping the official documents and equipments which are supposed to be at the office at their personal residence, which is total violation of the service rule.

It also demanded functioning of the SDEO Tobu with immediate effect. “Non-functioning of the office has hampered the academic career of the students, as the teachers posted under SDEO Tobu have to travel to Mon HQ even for obtaining the signature of any staff, since majority of the staff are stationed at Mon HQ,” it pointed out.

The TASU further asked for a clear understanding on how the department will effectively work on this issue and the in-charge who will be responsible in the SDEO’s absence. “We are optimistic, that no teachers across the Sub-Division will take additional trouble to travel at Mon after the said meeting,” it hoped.

It also called for inspection of all the schools. “With the academic session 2023 coming to an end, we would like to request your office for inspection at all the schools and initiate strict action against teachers engaging proxy,” it stated. The TASU meanwhile called for immediate posting of teachers at GMS Shammnyu, GPS Pessao-B and GPS Shinnyu.

It further stated that if the said meeting is inconclusive and if the department fails to meet their demands, the union will be compelled to re-initiate their own course of action even to the extent of closing down the schools or imposing indefinite bandh across the sub-division.
