Urges law enforcing agency, district administration to register criminal cases any such group, individual
DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): Dimapur based civil societies under the banner of Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) called a joint meeting with 19 tribal Hoho Presidents, Naga Women Hoho Dimapur, GBs Union (Sadar) and DUCCF on June 23 at Naga Council conference hall in connection to multiple taxation in and around Dimapur.
A press release issued by NCD has expressed concern that the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) and groups of individuals have been serving demand notices to business community and even individual operators demanding from their hard earned money or even contribution for their organizations by putting the victims under fear of threat or intimidation.
Such demands in the presence of fear, threat or cautions cannot be termed as voluntary and necessarily amount to extortion under the Indian Penal Code, the NCD stated.
Therefore in the interest of maintaining law and order and providing safety and security to the citizens of Dimapur, the NCD have urged the law enforcing agency and district administration to register criminal cases any such group, individual making demands which are accompanied by fear, threat, intimidation or coercion.
The meeting after thorough and minute deliberation also passed a resolution to affirm the public action committee resolution passed on October 31, 2013 of “One Government One Tax” for which the public action committee under the aegis of NCD would pursue the matter to safe guard public interest.
