‘TB a major concern for people living with HIV’

Health awareness programme on Tuberculosis held at Lizumi New village

Zunheboto, July 1 (MExN): Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) Zunheboto organised an awareness and sensitization programme at Lizumi New Village, Zunheboto on June 30.

Shekho Sophie, District Media Officer, CMO office Zunheboto in a press release stated that Dr. G. Viholi, DTO, Zunheboto in her address gave an awareness about the devastating health, social and economic consequences of TB, and to step up efforts to end the global TB epidemic. She shared about some facts about the early warnings and awareness for early detection. She elaborated about the signs and symptoms and about the Designated Microscopy Centre available in Zunheboto district.

Dr. Viholi said that Tuberculosis (TB) is a major concern for people living with HIV (PLHIV) as their impaired immune systems make them particularly vulnerable to the disease. Providing the right care and support to PLHIV with TB co-infection remains a priority to reduce related morbidity and mortality. She also encouraged about the responsibilities of every citizen to create awareness and called upon the governments, affected communities, health-care providers, and NGOs.

Dr. Viholi also emphasized that the accent on the urgency to act on the commitments made by global leaders to scale up access to prevention and treatment, build accountability promote an end to stigma and discrimination, and promote an equitable, rights-based and people-centered TB response. She elaborated that the government of India aims to end the TB epidemic by 2025, and envisions a free of TB with zero deaths, disease and suffering. She further said, to eradicate the TB Disease, we should come together to learn about the TB and provide the community to get every knowledge about the TB.

In a short speech, Hokishe Chophy, DPO, DAPCU stressed on goal set by WHO 90,90,90. He said that first 90 is that 90 per of PLHIV should know their status and from that 90 per should get access to treatment and from which 90 percent should get their viral load suppressed. 

After the programme, a short mobile camp was conducted where 56 OPD cases, 17 HIV test, ten sputum and 22 Malaria test was carried out. Free IEC materials were distributed.

The programme was attended by GBs, Church workers, youths, stakeholders, medical fraternity and IEC bureau. Hekuto Sema, SMI, NVBDCP Chaired the programme and vote of thanks was delivered by Nikheshe Jimo, GB, Lizumi New Village. Lukhevi Jimo, invoked God's blessings.
