Dimapur, May 25 (MExN): The Tangkhul Baptist Churches Association (TBCA) Ukhrul has congratulated Rev. Dr. Wati Aier, Convenor of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation on being awarded the prestigious 2011 Baptist World Alliance Denton and Janice Lotz Human Rights Award.
“This international recognition is a landmark in the history of peace initiatives in the Naga context and it comes at a very crucial juncture of the reconciliation process when Nagas are putting in their best effort to sincerely reconcile among ourselves. Reconciliation is not easy for it comes with a price but don’t cave in to the pressures from within and without, continue to strive on – the people are with you,” stated the association in a press note issued by its president Rev. Nganingkhui Ragui and executive secretary Rev. Yarngam Muivah
It also stated that the association expressed its full support and commitment to Naga reconciliation on the basis of the historical and political rights of the Nagas. While appreciating the leaders of the three political groups for showing their commitment to Naga reconciliation by signing the Covenant of Reconciliation, we encourage them to take the final and decisive step to accomplish the long cherished dream of our people. “May the good Lord grant you good health, wisdom and patience as you continue to shoulder the responsibility of uniting the Nagas as one for our common destiny tomorrow,” it said.
Meanwhile, the association in the press note also condoled the demise of Yajen Aier, father of Rev. Dr. Wati Aier, who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern education and the first Naga to hold the post of Director in the Education department, Government of Nagaland.
