Kohima, June 23 (MExN): The Coming Generation (TCG), a nonprofit organization based in Kohima, organized an awareness programme as part of the ‘Nagaland Says No to Plastics’ campaign at Nagabazar Baptist Thenoko Krotho here on June 21.
The campaign is an initiative of ‘Nagaland for Change’ as one of the social action programmes of TCG for better Nagaland, stated a press release from TCG. Its objective is to give and spread awareness on the ill effects of plastic pollutions and the threat it poses to eco-system.
The organizer encourages the people to use biodegradable bags which are available in the market. Recognizing litters and mismanagement of waste as a serious issue, the campaign had been started to reduce one time plastics use and to encourage people to refuse plastic bags as much as possible, the release added. The campaign calls for mass participation from all aspects of life.
At the awareness programme which was held in women’s prayer service, the speaker Alice Kamei, Program Coordinator from TCG called upon the women to start the change from oneself by adopting the habit of using cloth bags, paper bags, fabric bags which are degradable.
She also noted that women will be playing a very vital role in minimizing the use of plastic bags. From the Christian point of view, she said, “God has given us this green earth and it is a responsibility of individual as a Christian to care and protect our earth.”
