TDCC Printing and Publishing House launched in Mkg

Mokokchung, August 24 (MExN): TDCC Printing and Publishing House, a wing of Tribal Development and Communication Centre (TDCC), Mokokchung, was formally inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, W Manpai Phom on August 23 in Mokokchung Town. Rev. Ponen Longchar, Pastor, Mokokchung Town Baptist Church offered the dedicatory prayer.

Another important feature of the programme was releasing of the 40th TDCC Publications titled ‘Tribal Cultural Imagination and Theological Conversations’ co-authored by L. Imsutoshi Jamir and Zulunungsang Lemtur.

A press release from TDCC, Mokokchung informed that the Centre had a very humble beginning way back in 1994 when around 15 young scholars, church leaders, social activist, media practitioners and communication experts from different parts of Nagaland and few from Assam and Manipur came together to start a charitable organization. The first major focus and objective of the centre was to involve in research and publication, the release said.

Second major focus was aimed at promoting young scholars by providing platform to publish their research work with International Standard Book Number (ISBN) in order to make tribal/Naga scholarship reach national and international audience, it added.

Manuscripts received at TDCC from scholars are examined by a three-member publishing committee and then ISBN is given to the scholars without any charge.

The release further informed that TDCC as a registered publisher do not hold copyright of any book published under its name and that the author is solely responsible of the book in terms of its contents and next edition/reprinting/impression. As per the policy, the ISBN supplied for the proposed book is active only for three months, i.e., from the date of issuing the number. After which, the ISBN number is automatically deactivated, it was stated.

So far, the centre has published 40 books and five more books are in the press and will be published in two months time. The first book by the Centre ‘Unforgettable Memories from Nagaland’ was published in 1994. TDCC in 2007 became as a registered publisher with an allotment of Publisher’s Identifier under ISBN system and policy. TDCC was being run without printing press of its own.

One of the active members of TDCC, Dr. L. Imsutoshi Jamir, who is also the Research and Publication Consultant of the centre, lauded Merennungsang Imsong and Bendangtula Jamir for fulfilling the long-felt need of the centre by establishing TDCC Printing and Publishing House. Dr. Jamir also said that with this new development in the TDCC publishing wing, few publishing policies and criteria may be added.
