DIMAPUR, MARCH 28 (MExN): The Tongjeimarin District Demand Committee (TDDC) has called for a 24 hour bandh from the midnight of March 28 till the midnight of March 29 against the Manipur government’s failure to meet the committee’s demand regarding a separate full-fledged district carving out lands from Tamenglong, Senapati, Imphal East (Jiribam) and Chrachandpur Districts.
The TDDC in a press note today informed that “all vehicular traffics will be banned completely except for medical duty, examinations, water supply, marriage and religious ceremonies.” The bandh will be in effect in three major roads: National Highway No. 37 from Kethelmandbi to Ijei Bridge Noney (Aga River) and section of Highway from Khongsang to Gularthol Police station bordering Jiribam Sub-division.
The bandh will also be imposed on the Tongjeimarin Road (Old Cachar Road) from Chinikon to Reangpang converging National High Way No. 37. It informed that all construction works along the declared bandh areas should halt totally. The will also be enforced on the road leading to Leimatak Power House from Loktak Project. The TDDC also asked all government department offices in the area to close down in protest.
