TDFA League: Sonshang FC keep hopes alive; TVSF edge Winzig in seven-goal thriller

Sonshang FC claimed their second win in the ongoing TDFA League with a clinical 4-0 victory over Rise of Strangers, while Tuensang Village Sports Foundation (TVSF) extended their unbeaten run with a hard-fought 5-3 win against WinzigKonigz in a pulsating second match of Matchday 5 at Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground on Thursday.

In the opening fixture, Sonshang FC wasted no time asserting control as Hanglen struck in the 4thminute to give them an early lead. Despite several chances in the first half, Rise of Strangers managed to hold the scoreline to 1-0 heading into the break.

The second half saw Sonshang break loose. Hongmai doubled the lead in the 58thminute, followed by a well-placed finish from Changli Hila in the 75th. The most spectacular moment of the game came four minutes later when Sangkhong curled in directly from a corner to make it 4-0, sealing a dominant performance.

Defender of Sonshang FC NamangSangba was named Man of the Match for his composed presence at the back, ensuring Rise of Strangers never found a way through.

In the day’s second encounter, all eyes were on the high-flying TVSF, who came into the match having scored 19 goals in their previous two games. They faced a spirited WinzigKonigz side eager to make a statement.

TVSF drew first blood just four minutes in through Bapen, but Winzig responded swiftly with Dolensangba’s equaliser in the 11thminute. The match changed when S. Ayenmongba, who had scored eight goals in his previous outing, was brought off the bench. Within minutes, he delivered yet again – netting in the 25thand 32ndminutes to put TVSF ahead 3-1 at halftime.

The second half began with Chongshen adding a fourth in the 56thminute, followed by Bapen completing his brace in the 62nd. With a 5-1 lead, it seemed like another routine win for TVSF.

However, Winzig’s birthday boy had other plans. He struck twice in quick succession – goals in the 73rdand 74thminutes breathed life into Winzig’s attack and brought the scoreline to 5-3. The final 15 minutes were all Winzig as they pressed high and created multiple chances, but the TVSF backline held firm.

S. Ayenmongba’s game-changing impact earned him the Man of the Match title as TVSF marched on with three wins from three, cementing their place at the top of the table.

The action continues Saturday with two crucial matches. In the early fixture, Auyang FC and Fusion FC – both searching for their first win – will clash in a battle for survival. Later, playoff contenders SoyemSangya FC and Naga Brothers FC face off in what promises to be a tightly-contested encounter.
