Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Dimapur Niuland block set up Tea Farm School in Hozukhe village on June 25.
Agholi, whose farm is spread over 6 hectares, was appointed as the farm teacher. In a press release, Agholi informed that she does plucking thrice in a month and halts it during winter season for pruning. She spends around Rs 10,000 for labourers and transportation during one time plucking and harvest around 10 quintals, the release added.
Demalu Hasnusa, Block Technology Manager (BTM), Niuland block spoke on the role of a farm teacher and also highlighted the prospects of tea cultivation to the participants.
During interaction, the farmers mentioned that absence of tea board, processing units and lack of technical guidance has led to the decline of tea farmers in Dimapur, it was informed.
The press release further mentioned that there are about 30-35 tea farmers in Niuland block from 7 villages and each individual has an average of 5 hectares of tea farm. The topography, suitable climate and farmers’ interest under Niuland block have excellent and vast potential for tea cultivation, it added.
