In an unfortunate incident, a middle-aged man in Kohima on Thursday caused vandalism in the heart of Kohima town triggering police and youths to take prompt action.
The incident occurred at the traffic point in Phoolbari, Kohima where a man was seen damaging flower pots in an enraged manner.
While the incident is said to have occurred in the morning around 8:00 am, the man has been identified as a primary teacher in Peren.
Speaking to the PRO & Kohima Police Additional SP, Soriso, he informed that the traffic personnel and Kohima Village Youth Organization (KVYO) had intervened and took him into custody at Kohima North Police Station before he caused other fury.
In videos being circulated in social media, he was also seen ranting at uniformed policemen.
During the time the incident occurred, the Police said only women traffic police were on duty.
The PRO however said that the situation was taken under control with the police and KVYO acting swiftly.
While family members also arrived, police said that the family members have informed that the man was also suffering from mental illness.
In this regard, he was forwarded to Naga Hospital Authority, Kohima for examination where he was also found to be under the influence of alcohol.
On examination, the hospital has forwarded him for psychiatric consultation.
A Gypsy being driven by the man has been taken into custody. However, no formal case has been registered.
As far as the damages were concerned, the police informed that the family will recover all the damaged items.
