The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) celebrated the 57th Teachers’ Day celebration at Town Hall, Mokokchung with the Minister of PWD, Government of Nagaland, Tongpang Ozukum as the main speaker.
Tongpang Ozukum in his speech said that celebration of Teachers’ Day is not an obligation or a compulsion to be observed, but it should be considered as the duty for the Nation as a whole to give the highest respect and honour to teachers who are considered as ‘Nation Builder’. He conveyed his gratitude to the teachers for giving impeccable contribution in the field of education and also making a positive impact in the lives of the young minds.
Tongpang Ozukum also spoke on the present context of educated youth opting for teaching as last resort. He pointed out that many are employed just for the sake of salary and added “this is something unexpected from the people who are engaged in such a noble profession, who are responsible for building our society on the solid foundation,”
Ozukum further, said let the Teachers’ day celebration should not only be a time for honouring the teachers but let it should be a time of self-evaluation of one’s performance, contribution and achievement towards the profession as a teacher.
The Minister also gave away the District Education Office Award to 17 teachers. The Ao Senden Literature Board and the Education Forum of Mokokchung also gave away awards to subject toppers, Top Twenty Position holders in HSLC and overall highest position in India School Certificate Examination (ISCE).
AKM President, Imkongwati gave the welcome address while a short speech was delivered by DEO Mokokchung, Talingangla and special presentations were presented by the students of Jubilee Memorial School, Cure Foundation School, Town Hr. Sec School and Hill View Hr. Sec. School. A special prayer for the teachers was also pronounced by Shilula Imchen, Associate Pastor Women, MTBA.
