Imphal | February 19
Underpaid teachers of government aided schools in Manipur on Wednesday threatened to launch intense forms of agitation if their demand is not met by the government.
“We will take up drastic steps if the government fails to issue order on or before February 25, 2020,” spokesperson of the Joint Administration Council (JAC) All Manipur Government Aided School Employees Organisation, Thokchom Koireng threatened, during a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The state government had already agreed to implement the 6th Pay Commission for the teachers of the aided schools by the end of financial year 2018-19. The cabinet of N Biren Singh government had already approved it, the teachers said. However, the same is yet to be translated into work, the aided school teachers alleged.
Thokchom Koireng said that teachers of full-fledged government primary schools have been enjoying the revised of pay (ROP) and they have even started demanding pay structures recommended by the 7th Pay Commission.
"But pay structure of the 5th Pay Commission is still being given to the aided school teachers, making us hard to manage our families with the meagre income unsuitable with the time," the teachers rued.
The teachers then informed that a total of 1699 teachers are serving in 584 government aided schools across the state.
