DIMAPUR, MARCH 18 (MExN): Bosco College of Teacher Education (BCTE) - Bosco B. Ed College, Dimapur, celebrated its 15th foundation cum cultural day on March 17, with Joel N. Kath, Chairman of Against Corruption And Unabated Taxes (ACAUT) as chief guest, and Fr. Nestor Guria SDB, Salesian Provincial of Dimapur as guest of honour.
Fr. Nestor Guria, guest of honour, said teachers have the noble task of identifying the qualities and talents of students and ‘train them to fly high.’
Joel N. Kath cautioned the teacher trainees of many divergent world views –secularism, liberal thoughts, scientific naturalism, post modernism etc., which were taught in western universities and can be harmful. “The teachers have the great responsibility to mould young minds and impart correct world views into them if we want to save the future of our society from moral decay and gradual destruction,” Kath said.
Fr. Dr. Joseph Thuruthel, Principal of BCTE shared a brief history of BCTE and stressed on the need of knowing and preserving one’s culture while respecting those of the others. The other events of the day celebration included prayer dance, power-point presentation on the history of the college, colourful cultural dances, melodious solos and group singing and the final benediction. The day concluded with refreshment for all.
A press release from the College stated that since the B. Ed classes began in the present site and the College made rapid progress to become one of the premiers B. Ed colleges in the state of Nagaland. Till date BCTE has been able to train 1300 teachers in the course of 15 years.
Though majority of the 147 students are from Nagaland, the presence of a few students from Assam, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal etc. greatly enriches and lends a pan - India colour to the Bosco College of Teacher Education, Dimapur.
