Kohima, October 8 (MExN): A 30-day induction training course for elementary teachers of Peren and Kiphire was held from September 7–October 6 at the Training Hall, SCERT, Kohima.
In the valedictory function on October 6, Khrietuo Mezhur, Director, SCERT emphasized on the importance of training for teachers and said Primary and Elementary are the most important stages for children’s growth. Therefore, teachers need to be trained before entering the classroom, he stated, and urged untrained teachers to be trained. Pointing out that there are many untrained teachers, he also dwelt on the lack of Science and Mathematics teachers. He noted that the shortage of Science and Mathematics teachers has hampered in building a strong foundation for students in the two subjects, according to a press release.
Meanwhile, Additional Director, T. Sekhose said the prestigious status of teachers has declined as compared to the previous years. He maintained this was not because of the students or any other factor, but teachers themselves as “they have not been able to perform as per the expectation of the public,” the release said. Stating that we are living in a digital world today, he exhorted that teachers must update themselves. “A person who does not enlighten himself cannot enlighten others,” he said. He further urged the trainees to go back home and be an example in their teaching profession.
Highlights of the programme included welcome address by Moa Longkumer, Joint Director, a brief report on the training by Thebi Joseph Shupao, Research Associate, special song by the teacher trainees, comment about the induction training from the trainees by Temong Y. Tikhir and Azeu Nsa, report on exposure trip by Akiele Ndang and vote of thanks by Sonian Jemphang, Training-cum-Research Assistant.
