TechExpo: Kohima Science College’s innovation placed in top 5

Kohima, September 10 (MExN): A working tea leaves cutting machine (TLCM) prototype made by students of Kohima Science College (autonomous) Jotsoma was placed in the top 5 during the TechExpo at IIT Guwahati.  

TechExpo, an annual techno-management festival, is a platform for all young Indian students to showcase their projects and innovative products to bring to light the technological advancement made by the youths of the country. The TechExpo ‘16 was held at IIT Guwahati from September 1-4.  

Three students represented Kohima Science College with the tea leaves cutting machine, informed a press release from KSCSU Science Club Secretary, Khumeng T. The masterminds behind the innovative machine are Zenwang Konyak, Kevisede Savino, and Daniel Konyak of B.Sc 1st year. The TLCM aims to be more efficient with less energy consumption, easy locomotion, eco-friendly, cost effective and reliable technique compared to the traditional methods in tea industry.

  The judges at the TechExpo comprised of Frederick J Raab, Head, LIGO Hanford Observatory; Dr. Amit Sethi, Department of Electronics and Electrical Engineering, IIT Guwahati; Dr. Sachin Kumar, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering, IIT Guwahati; Dr. Senthilmurugan S, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Guwahati.  

The release informed that the Kohima Science College under the Science Club Secretary Khumeng T and Advisor Dr. Chetan Kachhara, Department of Physics and the Students’ Union had partially funded the project.  

The TLCM team was awarded with certificates and a cash prize. The team from Kohima Science College was the only one from Nagaland to represent the state at the expo.
