DIMAPUR, July 16 (MExN): In the backdrop of an eighty year old man being held for raping a minor, Women Cell, Dimapur on Friday, July 16 disclosed the arrest of another man in connection with a separate case of rape.
One teenager identified as Maizul Ali (18 years) was arrested by Women Cell personnel July 15 at around 10:00 pm on the charge of sexually abusing a thirteen year old minor girl. The accused is a present resident of Thahekhu village (Block III), Dimapur, Women Cell said.
According to Women Cell the incident had occurred on July 10 last at Thahekhu village. The accused said to be an autorickshaw driver had lured the girl away to a remote area of the village, near the railway tracks and committed the crime, Women Cell said. The girl, however, did not disclose the incident to her relatives fearing humiliation. The victim is said to be living her grandmother in the same village.
A police complaint was lodged only on July 14. The family of the victim also was not willing to disclose the matter to police, women Cell said, leading to the delay in lodging an FIR.
Following the complaint the accused was finally arrested from Thahekhu village on the night of July 15 and is now in police custody.
Suspect held for murder
One man identified as Sheraz Ali (50 years) was detained by police today at around 2:00 pm for his alleged involvement in the murder of an eighteen year old girl at Nihokhu village under Niuland sub-division. The murder occurred on the evening of July 15 at around 8:00 pm, Women Cell said.
The deceased was identified as one Sultana Begum. The victim was the daughter of Shohor Ali, who is said to be residing at Nihokhu village works as a labour in the village’s paddy fields.
According to Women Cell, the victim was not killed instantly. She is said to have gone out of her house around 8:00 pm when suddenly, a group of around 5-6 persons came up from behind and tried to strangle her with bare hands. She somehow managed to free herself and ran into her house alarming her family where she breathed her last after recounting the incident, Women Cell said.
The victim’s father went after the perpetrators and was able to recognize one person, who turned out to be the detained suspect, Sheraz Ali. Police were later able to detect him the next day and brought him into custody.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be known with police interrogating the suspect to further investigation.
