‘Telangana report to be drafted’

NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 9 (TIMES NOW): According to sources on Sunday (October 9) the report on Telangana will be drafted on the basis of meetings with the Andhra Pradesh leaders. As the Telangana tussle continues, the report is now to be submitted to the Prime Minister and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
The development comes at a time when the Telangana impasse refuses to break and continues into its 28th day even as the Congress mulls a strategy to tackle the crisis.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to complete the consultation process by tomorrow following which a report will be submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi and a final call will be taken on the entire issue.
The Government is mulling two options; one is the creation of Telangana which is the demand that has been coming from several quarters but since there has also been a lot of opposition on the same issue, the other option being considered is the setting up of a regional council for Telangana and give it some legislative powers. Whether the option is considered by the MLAs and MPs of the region is something that the Congress has to wait and watch for before finalizing any decisions.
Meanwhile Pranab Mukherjee has refused to set a deadline for a resolution, he said that the consultation process within congress will end by Monday.
