Telongjem FC won the MDFA Trophy 2023 title by defeating Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club (MMSC) 2-1 in a very exciting final match played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on 3 November. By winning this year’s title, Telongjem FC are securing their the MDFA Trophy third time in a row.
Telongjem FC won a cheque of Rs 200,000 from N Lohou Besii, Manager Regional Business Office, SBI, while the runners-up, MMSC, received a cheque of Rs 100,000 along with certificates.
The individual award winners were Nungsängyanger who won the Best Goalkeeper from the Super Seniors category; David Konyak, Top Scorer with 9 goals from Konyak Students Union Mokokchung; Tongpongjongshi Jamir, the Best Defender from Telongjem FC; Shilusosang, the Most Promising Player from Sports Society Soyim; and Meyasenba from Moanungsang Memorial Sporting Club, who was awarded Player of the Tournament.
Imkong L Imchen, Advisor for Information & Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland, was the Chief Match Patron for the final match of the trophy.
In a very intense final match, the first goal of the final match was scored by Meyasenba from MMSC in the 41st minute, which was assisted by Molutsupong. Seiminthang Haokip of Telongjem FC scored the first goal in the 90+1 minute, leveling the score to 1-1.
Seiminthang Haokip sprinted through the left flank of the opponent’s defense, cutting through the four-man defense, and scored the decisive goal in the 90+5 minute, securing the win for his team over Moanungsang with a final score of 2-1.
