Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): Nagaland and other North-East states are likely to experience maximum temperatures above normal, ranging from 4-6°Celsius, during the next 2 days, according to a weather update by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday evening.
In a relief, however, the national weather forecaster also predicted rainfall activity in the region on June 1.
According to the IMD, heatwave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal in the next four days.
The IMD added, "Maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal by 4-6°C over Northeast India during the next 2 days."
On May 31, heatwave conditions prevailed at isolated places over East Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
Likewise, maximum temperatures were markedly above normal on Wednesday (5.1°C or more) at most places over Arunachal Pradesh, and at many places over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, according to the IMD.
Minimum temperatures were also appreciably above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over Jharkhand, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, and at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Kerala & Mahe. There were isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra where the minimum temperatures were above normal, it added.
Meanwhile, according to the IMD Global Forecast System (GFS) weather forecast issued on May 31, temperatures in Dimapur city are likely to reach a maximum of 37°C and a minimum of 24°C for the next seven days.
The humidity levels (%), meanwhile, are likely to range from a maximum of 61-70 and a minimum of 19-26 during the same period. Based on the forecast, June 1 is likely to be the hottest during the next seven days.
On May 31, the maximum temperatures in Dimapur and Kohima were recorded at 37°C and 30°C, respectively.
