Dimapur, August 27 (MExN): The “Tenants Association Naga Shopping Arcade” of Dimapur has submitted a memorandum to the Development Authority of Nagaland, highlighting a number of objections, grievances and appeals for redress.
In the memorandum addressed to the DAN’s chairman, the association through its president Hutoshe Awomi and general secretary Rukumsha Lotha objected to the DAN’s decision to hike house rent by “75%.” This is outrageous and impractical, the memo stated. The association informed to have resolved to ‘accept only 10” hike inclusive of electricity and water bills. No tenants would pay the rent until the rate of increase is settled, the memo asserted. The association also assured that when the issue is settled, house rent dues during “the period of impasse” will be paid in 25% installments within one year.
The association also highlighted various grievances to the DAN. It mentioned that due to a neglected drainage system, tenants are incurring heavy losses owing to flooding of shops particularly in the market and bus stand areas. Water also seeps into the stalls and rooms from the roof, it added. Further to ensure transparency and precise meter rating as per units consumed, the association requested that individual meter boxes for each tenants be installed.
Other requests made to the DAN include security guards at the Naga Shopping Arcade to safeguard against antisocial elements, robberies, extortions and brawls etc; appointment of a separate and independent secretary or official “to take charge of the problems” faced by the tenants; conduct of a joint meeting between the association and DAN officials to take up issues relating to improvement of the shopping arcade and welfare of the tenants.
