Alleges lack of sincerity & negligence
Peren, May 18 (MExN): The Liangmai Students’ Union, Nagaland called attention to the alleged negligence of the officers and staff of the Nagaland Department of Power and the Public Works Department, by highlighting the state of affairs in the Tening subdivision of Peren district.
In a press release on Wednesday, the Union stated that the “inhabitants of Tening area are living under the ‘doom of darkness for a week or more due to abrupt irregularity of electricity,’ (sic),” and said it was anguished by the Power Department’s lack of sincerity towards their obligated duty. It claimed that the student community had faced much difficulty during their First Quarterly Examination which was concluded recently without electricity in their entire span of their examination.
It appealed the department to restore electricity to prevent further exacerbation.
With the arrival of monsoon, the LSUN also expressed concern about the “moribund and dilapidated road conditions” at the continuous stretch to Peren via Tening subdivision, stating that “the incessant monsoon/torrential rain will ultimately wash off our fragile roads.” This, it said, paves the way for rampant and unpredictable landslides and floods which the area is quite prone to.
“Therefore, the LSUN, after having seen the current and imminent crises in our area, strongly calls upon the concerned officers and staff of the two departments (Power Department & PWD, GoN) to be readily available in their respective postings as ‘Government Employees’ with the sole motive to contribute their sincere and committed services to their people where they are mandatorily assigned to discharge their duties, feeling the pulse of their people,” the release stated.
