Tening, October 28 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary for Municipal Affairs, Economics & Statistics, R. Tohanba formally inaugurated the Tening Town Council from Ad Hoc Town Committee under Peren district on October 28. Addressing the gathering Tohanba highlighted the various central schemes for Town Council like affordable housing, beneficiaries and loans system etc. He called upon the people to live smartly and be civilised while maintaining hygienic living. He also hoped that a lot of developments would come in the years ahead.
MLA Namri Nchang thanked the government for upgrading Tening to Town Council. He said that we should know the responsibilities instead of depending on the government for everything and suggested the Town Council elections to elect right leader through peaceful means. He informed that Tening Town was established during the time of British administration in the 19th century.
Advisor of Bamboo Development Agency, Naiba Konyak said that the Chief Minister being from their area was a great blessing for the people and urged the people to be broad minded and do proper planning for Tening Town development.
Parliamentary Secretary for Home Guards & Civil Defence and Sericulture, EE Pangteang gave a briefing on the meaning for Town Council and called upon the people to work hard with proper planning.
Deputy Commissioner, Peren Zarenthung Ezung in his address said that the launching of the Town Council was for progress and modernity with modern governance system with linkages to grassroots levels. DC said that the vibrancy of Town Council would give self- sufficiency and would generate its own resources to uplift the standard of living. He appealed for full cooperation to the government for fair and justice during the conduct of elections.
Reverend Kitanwi Chewang, Executive Secretary of LBA blessed the foundation stone. Welcome address was delivered by Kerang Domtta. Special song was presented by BYE Tening village. Cultural dance was performed by Tening Town Women Welfare Organisation. Vote of thanks was proposed by Lungchui. The programme was chaired by Thsuvisie Phoji, NCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tening.
