
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 13 (MExN): Two Assamese youth namely Dilip Gogoi and Prasanta Gogoi resident of Mautjuli Napam Gaon near Morongial under Nakachari P.S. in Jorhat district were kidnapped from Assam-Nagaland border by unknown miscreants suspected to be from Nagaland yesterday at noon. This was informed in a press note issued by Er. Temsu Wathi Ao Coordinator, Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland).
It is reported that some people from Assam were indulging in brewing of local liquor inside Nagaland Jhumland for quite sometime for commercial use. It is learnt that the public of that locality were not happy for carrying out such illegal activities for which public had dismantled the brewery location several times.
In yesterday’s incident, these kidnapped persons were employee of the brewery owner. Earlier, the abductors had taken three persons hostage and later released one asking him to bring the brewery owner for the release of the two, the press note.
Due to this incident, the adjourning area of the Assam-Nagaland border was in tense situation. Several organisations of Assam had given ultimatum to the authority demanding immediate release of the abductees or else impose of road blockade for travelers from Nagaland effective from 5 pm today. The Border Peace Coordination Committee (A-N) had viewed this situation as very unfortunate and unwarranted for. With a meaningful negotiation with the abductors, the two persons were released unharmed today at 3 pm and situation brought under control. The BPCC (A-N) thanked the Administrations and Police of both the states and the village councils of the neighbouring Naga villages for their effective cooperation for defusing to this crisis.
