Tension prevailed in Mon district's Tizit area following the alleged murder of a local student leader earlier today, May 25. As per reports, the tragic incident occurred when the deceased victim was leading an anti-drug campaign of the Tizit Area Students' Union (TASU) in Tizit.
The TASU reacted by calling a general “shutter down” for 24 hours in the Tizit area from May 25-26 to “mourn the brutal killing of Ahoa konyak, Action Chairman of TASU while he was on official duty.” A TASU 'circular,' while it asked shops to down shutters, said that it was compelled to impose such a restriction in the interest of safety of the general public.
The Mon police confirmed the incident, while informing that one person was arrested in connection to the murder. It was an anti-drug campaign initiated by the local Students' body to put a check on drug peddlers, a Mon police official said. Further details were awaited.
