Parliamentary Secretary for PWD (Housing) Er Levi Rengma today launched a cleanliness drive at Tesophenyu village under Tseminyu Sub Division of Kohima district as part of the ongoing Mission Antyodaya-Gram Samridhi Evam Swachhata Pakhwada. Organized by Tesophenyu Students’ Union and sponsored by WSSO, PHED, several school children joined the mass social work.
Speaking on the occasion, Er Levi said that Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a cleanliness drive aimed to cover cities and towns all over India in order to clean the streets, roads and other infrastructure.
“The present government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took initiative to revive the need for clean India as one of the most important mission of central government, thus Swachh Bharat Abhiyan campaign began with full government support to give clean living, surrounding healthy and clean mind to her people,” he said. He called upon the students to be aware of this mission.
This campaign involves the construction of latrines, promoting sanitation programmes in the rural areas, cleaning streets, roads and changing the infrastructure of the country to lead the country ahead.
The parliamentary secretary also stated that Swachh Bharat Mission aim to improve quality of life of people in the rural areas, motivate people to maintain sanitation in rural areas to complete the vision of Swachh Bharat by 2019, to motivate local working bodies such as communities, Panchayati Raj institutions, etc to make available the required sustainable sanitation facilities, develop advance environmental sanitation systems manageable by the community especially to focus on solid and liquid waste management in the area and to promote ecologically safe and sustainable sanitation in the rural areas.
Further, he maintained Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as a welcome step towards creating clean and green India by 2019.
Also quoting “Cleanliness is next to Godliness,” he expressed hope that Clean India campaign will really bring Godliness all over the country in few years if it is followed by the people of India in effective manner.”
A healthy country and a healthy society need its citizens to be healthy and clean in every walk of life, he added.
Tseminyu additional deputy commissioner Theodore Yanthan, government officials, GBs and village elders also present at the function.
