Dimapur | July 15
The first “Test-Tube Baby” Centre in Nagaland – In Vitro fertilization (IVF) facility – by Faith Hospital, Dimapur was formally inaugurated by Minister for Heath & Family Welfare Dr TM Lotha at a literally rain-drenched function held at Dimapur late early evening July 15.
Dr TM Lotha, the Chief Guest, said that service-based initiatives in the state are emerging gradually courtesy a conducive atmosphere and initiative-oriented State Government. “What we are in need of, today, is development. However with the changing times the people have to change too. Today, entrepreneurs and private initiatives are coming up due to the conducive and peaceful conditions in the state” said Dr TM Lotha in one of his shortest speeches ever. The function proceedings were held up by a heavy downpour that also saw the overhead canopy burst and drenching a section of the gathering.
“Lifestyles are changing and we should change with the times too. We cannot remain isolated” he said and wished Faith Hospital all success in their latest venture. Earlier in the programme, Rev Inaho Swu pronounced the invocation. Rev Dozo dedicated the IVF facility with a prayer and a reference from the Bible passage, Genesis 21:1 which says that Sarah wife of Abraham, an Old Testament personality, gave birth to a child in old age. Also in attendance, Rev Shewoto, prayed for patients and Faith Hospital. Dr Pramod Bajaj with audio-visual aids also enlightened the gathering on the various aspects of procedural processes involved in IVF.
Monsoon played spoilsport as a heavy downpour occurred while the function was in progress, leading to hold-up of proceedings for more than 45 minutes just before Dr TM Lotha, was to address the gathering. After a considerable wait for the rain and its roar to subside, Dr TM Lotha took the stand but had to cut short his speech – also disturbed by the roar of the shower.
Thanks to windy shower, the people at the programme found greater security and warmth by slowly inching towards the centre of the canopied area finally to gather into a tight cluster. The function also saw some anxious moments as water collected overhead, weighing down the canopy. The canopy gave away in a burst, drenching a section of the gathering towards the front.
The drenching notwithstanding, laughter and chuckles were also drawn from the attendees as umbrellas had to be scuttled off to the main podium where the chief guest and Dimapur Deputy Commissioner K Nzimong Ngullie were seated. The DC was only too happy to comply holding the umbrella to protect both Dr TM Lotha and his lady wife from the downpour before the minister took the microphone.
