Tetso College commemorates Constitution Day

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): The Department of Political Science, Tetso College, Dimapur commemorated Constitution Day on November 26. 

The programme was attended by Dr Hewasa Lorin, Vice Principal, Kvulo Lorin, Director, Dean, Assistant Dean and various Department Heads besides members of the teaching community, students and well wishers. 

The programme started with the welcome address by Dr Aniruddha Babar who began his speech tracing the contours of a journey of the drafting of the Constitution of India. 

Head of the Department, Dr Rimmei Longmei spoke about the Indian Constitution as a living document. Anjan K Behera, Assistant Dean emphasized on the role of constitution and constitutional ideals in defining the matters relating to citizens political, social and cultural freedoms.

Also seven students presented their papers on different aspects of the Indian Constitution under the theme: “The constitution of India: My Pride, My Identity.” Student participants shared views on various issues like Right to education, fundamental Rights and duties, Economic Justice & Social Equality, Need for awareness about constitutional rights, indigenous people’s rights and protective measures under the constitution of India, significance of Article 32, Role of Dr Ambedkar in nation building and making India welfare state, etc

The keynote speaker, Dr Samraggi Chakraborty shared from a legal perspective to preamble of constitution emphasized on the importance of ‘Right to Equality’ and mentioned the obligatory role of fundamental duties. 

The commemoration event was also marked by the mass reading of the Preamble of the constitution led by the chairpersons which was followed by a short vote of thanks from Dr V Vijaya Chamundeswari, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
