Thahekhu urges NSCN (M) to prosecute ‘culpable cadres’

Village council sets seven-day dateline

Dimapur, June 13 (MExN): In response to the NSCN (IM) asserting yesterday to have killed Atovi Yepthomi of Thahekhu village on January 25 due to “misinformation,” Thahekhu Village Council today served the NSCN (IM) seven days to prosecute the cadres. The culpable cadres must be prosecuted within the time frame given, with effect from June 14, and the action taken must be relayed through the media, the council said in a statement received here today.

Although the response from the NSCN (IM) came “quite overdue”, the council said, “we anxiously urge the authorities concerned to prosecute those involved within the time frame of 7 days with effect from today the 14/06/09 and that it may be relayed to us through publication in the press of the decision taken”.

The GBs, the Thahekhu Village Council and the public of the village acknowledged the “efforts” claimed to be made by the NSCN (IM) and their assurance of delivering justice to the citizens by awarding appropriate punishment to the errant cadres at the earliest. The entire populace of Thahekhu Village held a public meeting on June13 and decided unanimously that “we show some more restraint as a sign of trust in their declaration”. “We believe that the authorities concerned in the NSCN (IM) understands the sentiments of our people and also the sanctity of their government which assures justice,” the council added.
