Peren, June 19 (MExN): Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Tuesday said that the debacle of Lok Sabha election will not repeat in the ULB election. “Lok Sabha election results were purely an ideological play base on religious propaganda, because of which the NDPP candidates lost the election,” said Zeliang at the campaign kickoff programme of Peren and Jalukie town council NDPP candidates at Jalukie on June 18.

As per press release received here, Zeliang said that the long awaited 33% women reservation in ULB, “which was stalled for more than decade due to stiff opposition from men folks is not just a matter of policy but a beacon of hope and a call to action for the women of the state.”

Zeliang said “though Nagas have rich cultures and strong community values, women representation in the local governance was very less in the past.” He said that women participation in the decision making is inadequate and this imbalance stifles the potential of the Naga society.

‘Reservation of women in the ULB is not merely legislative mandate, but it is a fundamental step towards achieving gender equality and promotes inclusive development,’ he said and that women bring unique perspectives, innovate solutions and compassionate governance.

He urged women to rise to occasion and make use of the platform to prove their worth with dedications.
He also urged men to support and encourage women by upholding women reservation and create environment where women are empowered to lead.

Altogether 18 NDPP candidates are in the fray for Peren and Jalukie town council.
