Kohima, October 28 (MExN): A training workshop on organic farming was organised by The Green Caravan, a service provider for Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) Phase 4 under Department of Agriculture, Government of Nagaland.
The event held on October 25 and 26 at the SDAO Office in Baghty was aimed at empowering farmers from 11 villages, including Baghty town, Upper Baghty, Soku, Makharon, Nitsuyan, Sanis, Meahangpen, Tsopo, Yonchucho, Sunglup, and Lakhuti. These villages form the Lotha Middle Range Farmers Producer Company Limited, established under MOVCDNER Phase 4.
Longshithung Lotha, Agriculture Officer chaired the event, with an invocation led by Shri. Aremo Ovung, Agriculture Inspector. The program was graced by Renathung, Sub-Divisional Agricultural Officer (SDAO), who encouraged farmers to uphold the principles of organic farming as outlined in the MOVCDNER scheme and assured them of all possible support from the department.
Renathung emphasized the importance of sustainable farming practices and the long-term benefits of organic certification for the farmers and the region.
The technical session covered essential aspects of organic farming, including the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP) guidelines and the management of the Internal Control System (ICS) at the farmer level. Farmers were also provided with insights into market trends to strengthen market linkages for their organic produce.
Farmers actively participated in discussions on crop-related issues and explored ways to improve yields through organic practices. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Chumyani Ovung, AO, expressing gratitude for the valuable knowledge and support shared with the farming community.
