Ketholeno Neihu, a correspondent for The Morung Express was awarded the 2023 REACH Media Awards for Excellence in Reporting on TB in English category. She received the award during the TB Conclave held at The LaLiT, New Delhi on March 19. 

In her story “Poor access driving crisis of drug-resistant tuberculosis in Nagaland,” published in The Morung Express in February 2023, Ketholeno underscores the challenges faced by people, and women in particular, in accessing timely treatment for MDR-TB in the remote areas of Nagaland. The story highlights issues such as lack of awareness, transportation barriers, economic challenges, and the need for improved healthcare infrastructure in the state. 

REACH or Resource Group for Education and Advocacy for Community Health is a non-profit organisation based in India and working on Tuberculosis for over two decades.

Its mandate include engaging the private sector, providing care and support for people with TB, empowering communities, promoting multi-sectoral coordination for TB , building evidence based innovative approaches and improving public understanding of TB. 

The REACH Media Awards have been instituted to recognise outstanding and effective reporting on TB by journalists in India.

 These awards highlight the vital role played by the media in informing the public and decision-makers about TB prevention and care.

Other recipients of the Awards include Saumya Kalia from The Hindu and Varsha Singh an independent journalist in the English category and Shailaja Tiwale, an independent journalist and Sanjay Kumar, from the Hindustan Times in the Local language category.
