The Orphan Child

I Longkumer

This is my personal opinion of Dimapur - an orphan. Lost, confused and neglected.

A city on the verge of decay with no visible and feasible development on the horizon. It's being pumped beyond its limits because the juice it produces fuels the flow of the few vested interests. The elected representatives, over the years, have not done anything concrete to elevate the outlook and purpose of the city. Complacency is the order of the day. The public, for the most part, is too busy caught up trying to survive the rat race. It's all about getting through the day. There's no one capable enough to lead and guide them. We're left to fate's whims and fancies.

The ease of living leaves much to be desired. The lack of proper roads, drainage, sanitation, public parks or recreational spaces, to name a few, is concerning. There is no vision to enhance the quality of life. Dimapur is the vein that connects every part of Nagaland and which keeps the state running. It deserves much more. It needs to be reminded of its significance and relevance. It needs to be loved and taken care of. It is much more than just a cash cow.

Everyone must come together at both the individual and collective levels to contribute towards developing a blueprint to transform Dimapur into a vibrant city with a respectable and sustainable quality of life. A few tweaks, behavioural changes and with discipline and determination, we should be off to a decent start.
