The Row between the Ministry of Home Affairs -MHA and the Ministry of External Affairs -MEA over the recent visit of the European Ambassadors to Nagaland indicates how sensitive Delhi is about Nagaland.
Nagaland has nothing to do with the internal row between the two Ministries at Delhi. It would only watch the highly entertaining Bout between two equally matched and fervently zealous contestants in the Ring. It would be as interesting as India’s five times world women Boxing Champion gold medalist from our neighboring State of Manipur, Mary Kom India has not given her due share of recognition, defeat the Japanese Champion Ayako Minnowa at Qinhuangdao in China recently.
One wonders why an internal problem such as this has been brought out of the secret Box for all the public to gaze; it serves neither of the two contestants nor the Referee; none of the fighters will get any Point nor will the Referee any recognition. Only, the Crowd will have the pleasure of enjoying the fight without payment for any Ticket.
It indicates how sensitive New Delhi is about Nagaland. Much water has run down the Brahmaputra after the same European Ambassadors visited Assam and Meghalaya and not a piece of the Sky fell down; the Team is going to Arunachal Pradesh in continuation of its India visit after Nagaland and likely, not even a Chest Nut may fell down. New Delhi need not hide Nagaland.
Nagaland however would do well not to create any false obstacles on the way of the European Union’s friendship with India. The European Union, however important it may be, cannot help Nagaland directly without India’s approval. The friendly relation between the European Union and India is a very important factor for the fruitful collaboration between the EU and Nagaland or for that matter, the Northeast States. If India sets up too many Speed Breakers on the Road, the movement of the Collaboration would suffer.
The way Nagaland could help the chain of friendship and collaboration in the Look-East Policy of the emerging Economy of India, the EU Ambassadors seem to very much emphasize with great hope for collaboration, lies in not shaking the Indo-Naga Political Oven too early before the yeast in the dough swells the Cake recipe fully in the oven. It is unlikely the European Union would overtly support the Nagas politics to the ire of Delhi.
The Ambassadors did not come to settle the Indo-Naga Political Problem, they came to see and understand the intricacies of India and the possibilities for wide ranging Collaboration with democratic India.
In my opinion, it would be naively unwise to openly discourse with any foreign official Government delegates the Indo-Naga political Problem by the State of Nagaland, much the least by every Tom and Dick NGOs after seemingly attending Coaching Classes elsewhere. Nagaland would then unwittingly create a burden for the goodwill foreign Visitors vis-à-vis Government of India and the untimely shaking by opening the oven may shrivel the Cake rather than swelling it fully to the brim of the receptacle in the oven.
