The silent war

First there was Hollywood, then came Bollywood, and now the Spiky Porcupiny Korea wood hairdo is fast gaining acceptance. And the rather disquieting news is that, our bleary-eyed youths are blindly aping any fashion, culture or habit/lifestyle that captures their fancy.

Free and frequent access to the internet has, along with some blessing, brought in much evil, too. It has exposed our vulnerable and impressionable youth to all the uncensored filth, perversion, pornography and violence. House of fruitful study time and family fellowship are wasted on this. The result? What we haplessly witness on our streets today is what we watched in the movies yesterday.

Then there are the beautifully packaged packs of tobacco, attractively labeled bottles of wine, cheap and affordable pouches of other intoxicants, glue etc.

Censoring media, I admit, is difficult. But how about banning these intoxicants? The government tells us they are bad. Doctors have endorsed that many sensible folks abhor and shun them. Yet we seem to be content to watch our kids continue to feed on them every day, every hour, every minute – unchecked! Mind you, they are our future pillars who will inherit our land, houses and cars.

The other day I came across a shocking news headline – ‘Pan shops to go for open sale of wine in Ukhrul,’ in one of the local dailies. This disturbed me for days.

We have conducted a number of camps for children and youth, and no matter how well I prepare myself for any unpleasant shock, I am always shocked at their testimonies. I have seen kids as young as 10 confessing tearfully to having tasted talab, zarda paan, cigarettes, wine, dendrite, SP tablets, etc. Many learn from their parents, peers and friends.

Unless we do something about this we are soon going to have a new generation of alcoholics, chain smokers, glue sniffers, drug addicts and perverted beasts. Then there will be TB and cancer patients, HIV positives, widows, orphans etc. some will be forced into prostitution in order to feed their kids.

I once caught a Cobra and a Chameleon, and I did this. I gave them each a generous dose of scented tobacco (Khaini-a panipat brand), and watched their reaction. Both wriggled and writhed in agony before they died. The Cobra lasted a little over 10 minutes, the other about 4 minutes. And I can well imagine the effect on the delicate foetus in the womb of a mother who daily consumes tobacco, alcohol or smokes. No wonder, then, that we are beginning to produce a generation of perverted loonies who can’t think well sleep well, eat well and even die well.

The first war broke out in heaven. Lucifer, also called Satan, rebelled against God and challenged his own Creator. Lucifer and his angels were defeated and banished from heaven. But the defeated foe hasn’t given up yet. With cunningly devised lies and methods, he continues to stalk every home, ‘seeking whom he may devour.’ Are you and your family protected? *Revelation 12:7-9
