In every Nation of the world, every State, every country, every human society; the selfish, the strong and the brutes perpetrate senseless violence against the overpowered, the weak, the helpless and very often the silent 50 % of the population.
In Nagaland, last week the MORUNG ran the story of the one sided violence the senseless brutes perpetrates on 50% of the silent population. Not one of the strong half of the population wrote anything against the unequal war, neither against nor regret; not a word of sympathy for the silent destitute. This Writer too mindlessly kept mum; the exercise by the esteemed Daily appeared a shade Competition and the Writer did not feel like writing for Competition -anyway that is only a lame excuse!
The 50% male population of the society’s violence against the silent long suffering weaker Female Gender 50% population everywhere in the World, is a world wide open Injustice; unfortunately it is under the ground of the male dominated world and hence the society does not take it very seriously. However, the problem is a serious challenge to the 21st Century modern democratic Society. The way the male dominated world tackles the problem of violence against woman -the solution lies with man- would affect Mankind’s journey of civilization to the future.
In India, the problem has gained alarming proportion. Daily, in the News Papers and in the Electronic Medias, we see reports of Gang-rape of overpowered woman, in Bus, in Cars, in Universities, in Flats, in rooms, in houses, in the field and in moving Cars in the busy Streets!
There is Law against the culprits, there is angry demonstrations in the Streets, the Supreme Court has convicted culprits with unusual speed, the Courts are seized with the situation; there has been unending Protests in the Maidans, in front of people with power, but the nagging evil practice continues unabated.
Anti-rape gadgets have been invented, apparatus to electric shock the perpetrator in the act is being tested, Chastity Belt have been known long ago, Chili Powder in the bags of every woman are suggested but the hated thing still goes on.
India seems to have descended into an abnormal situation and only Abnormal Measures can set the situation at right. The Society needs drastic remedial measure. Only a dramatic public measure would reverse the trend; normal measures would continue but only a drastic, dramatic public measure can removed the public shame be from the Society. The following drastic summery measure followed without publicity or information to the Police for 10 years may bring relief to the Society.
The Writer is aware there is possibility of mistaken action but even Doctors do mistakes in the operating room, the Supreme Court sometimes put innocent person in the death row, friends mistakenly shoot dead their friend in community hunting in Nagaland, that does not outlaw hunting in Nagaland or Fox Hunting in the UK.
A summary public neutering of the culprit by crushing of 50% of the offending seeds with two pieces of small wood or stones or bricks or shoes or between knuckles of the hands or shoe heel grinding in the ground by any person in the crowd, publicly practiced for 10 years all over the country would almost stop the evil menace.
Side by side, Woman Groups should sprout like Mushrooms in the Society to fight the 50% War without any consideration of the consequences. Some of the Measures may be:
i. Be ready for any kinds of jobs in the Society:
-Government, Industry, Trade, Commerce, Police (already implemented), Constructions, Buss Driving (in Trucks or Taxi they will move vulnerably alone) and most importantly equality in Political Party Posts.
ii. Laws may be passed in the Village Councils to inquire into Domestic Violence: it is culturally a shame for man to lay hands on a woman in the Naga Society.
Equality in employment would bring Equality in Treatment of woman: Nagaland is very much short of Work Force. We must utilize the 50% untapped Work Force.
