
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 7 (MExN): Thejavizo Merhieso emerged champion of the 69th NYSO Annual Wrestling Meet at Phrieba Rüzhüchü, Nerhema, defeating Kekhriesizo Merhieso in the final.
Khrielabeituo Semou clinched the third-place finish, defeating Pelelhoulie Merhieso in a fiercely contested match.
The Naga-style event was organised by Luozolie Semou, Khrietuolie Üsou, and Dziesekhrietuo Kerhü-o, and included a team of judges, belt binders, recorders, timekeepers, and announcers.
Earlier during the opening ceremony, special guest Ruovilhou Rülho emphasized the importance of health in a player’s life, highlighting the need for regular exercise and training to ensure prime physical condition. A crucial aspect addressed during the ceremony was the necessity for enhanced sports facilities in the village, including a gym and adequate equipment for players.
The speaker also stressed that providing such resources is essential for nurturing local talent and fostering a culture of sportsmanship.
During the closing ceremony, Vilhousielie Kengurüse, Secretary, VDB Nerhema conveyed that victory in Naga Wrestling is not solely about physical prowess but hinges on the fundamental foundation of discipline.
Highlighting the challenges faced by athletes, Kengurüse urged wrestlers to persevere through pain and adhere to discipline, emphasizing that enduring the hardships today leads to success tomorrow. He encouraged the players not to limit their victories but to extend their achievements to state level and eventually on the international stage.
Commending the wrestlers, Kengurüse expressed his blessings for their journey beyond, stating that achieving a silver jubilee in one’s career is an immense blessing and encouraged wrestlers not to keep playing until one achieves its goal.
Kengurüse urged players to not only focus on personal success but also to consider their role in blessing their villages through sportsmanship.
