Thenucho opens up political ops: United Naga Democratic Party

Dimapur, January 30 (MExN): Taking exception to the current state of fickle political posturing in Nagaland, former NPF stalwart and staunch regionalist, Thenucho Tunyi, has invited concerned people to “join hands” with him under the United Naga Democratic Party (UNDP).

“Given our present Naga political scenario, the greatest need seems to be leaders who refuse to be swayed by political waves which are not in the interest of the common people. We need political leaders who are committed to serving the people and who are powered and driven by ideologies and principles which best safeguard and promote the identity and aspiration of our people,” Thenucho explained in a press release.

He points out a political phenomenon rampant in the State. “Being a part of various political movements and parties, I have come to realize that the directions in which the present political parties of our state are moving are quite alarming, each is more committed to its party or personal interest rather than the national interest.” Thenucho states this to be the reason behind him stepping out of the “comfort zone of NPF” so as to “re-work the foundations and visions of the pioneers of regional parties”. Believing that he is not alone in this frame of political thought, he has invited people with similar interest and concern to join hands with him under the banner of United Naga Democratic Party (UNDP), “a legitimate party which was formed to fight for the rights and interest of our people”.

The UNDP has offered to take up issues facing the youth today; to harness their talent through “tight political steps and programs” to empower them to compete with the world. The UNDP also seeks to bring development, peace and progress in every aspect of society. “We believe that with the active support of our people, UNDP can provide political space for everyone to participate and build our future, a right and a duty of every individual to be a part of nation building process,” stated Thenucho.
