Thenyizu village undertakes tree plantation drive

Kohima, May 15 (MExN): The Thenyizumi Youth Social Welfare Organization organised a tree plantation drive in collaboration with the village council, women society and student union body under the theme 'Green Thenyizu' on May 14. 

The plantation drive stretched 18 kilometers from Sedzu River to Chetheba and trees were planted along the road sides of the two lane road connecting Chakhabama to Zunheboto.  

A press release from TYSWO stated that around 500 villagers including people from Chetheba, Kohima and Dimapur joined in for the plantation drive. Around 8,500 saplings including yonchak, cherry, silver oak, ashoka tree, fruit plants etc were planted. 

Director, Technical Education, Er Mhaseto Nakro speaking before the plantation exhorted the villagers to continue nurturing the saplings to ensure success of the plantation drive. He also asked them to continue follow up activities in the coming years. 

He said plantations will not only add aesthetic beauty but also contribute to mitigate environmental issues. He hoped that the plantation drive will provide the much needed balance in the ecosystem. 

VCC Medothi Rhakho acknowledged the villagers for coming together for the plantation. 

The program was chaired and led by Veseta Swuro, President, TYSWO. Thedüseyi Porüh, 
local Catechist, St Andrew Church, Thenyizumi invoked God's blessing before the plantation drive.
