ZHAVAME, December 30 (MExN): “One should be ashamed only if you are doing something illegal,” Dr Ruokuovinuo Rachel Krocha, a Medical Officer, Department of Health & Family Welfare has stated, impressing upon the students that ‘there is no shame in earning your livelihood.

Addressing the valedictory session of the 62nd Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) at the Public Ampitheatre, Pame Tsudü, Zhavame on December 29, she added: “Let us not be ashamed of working.” She called upon the students to have “goals” in life and not just one ambition.

“If you are just blindly studying to pass your exams, you become directionless in life,” Dr Krocha said, while emphasising that “your goals will direct you.”

Further highlighting the importance of being inquisitive and being curious, she told the students to develop the habit of being inquisitive and be curious of what, why or how? In this regard, she exhorted the students to “be inquisitive not just in academics but also in life.”

Stating that we often emphasize on “hard work”, she dwelt upon the importance of working smart in addition to working hard.

Earlier, she also talked about “success” which could mean different things to different people. However, to be successful in life, she said, we need the right basic education, which “should start from an early age right from your preschool and primary school.” Pointing out that everyone has a role to play in this regard as teachers and parents in instilling the right foundation, she said that the right education will help them differentiate between right and wrong and ultimately help them in creating a peaceful society.

Education, she said, involves the overall attributes of a person and impressed upon the need to give emphasis on the overall character development of a person. “We need to mould children right from the beginning”, she asserted.

“We have to adapt to change” while observing that there is a huge difference in the education system now, which has become very competitive,” she said.

“We cannot just memorise and expect ourselves to be able to compete with other people.”

Stating belief that when children are given the right basic education, she said, “when they grow up they will be self-sufficient and can be successful.”

Dr Krocha, who is the first medical doctor from the village, also called upon the students community to be optimistic, to believe in themselves and not to be afraid of failure or take risks while reiterating that they must not only work hard but work smart in order to achieve their goals in life.
