They I want to be them
For they can converse with the hills and the mountains
They have walked through the contour of the rivers and their struggle
And have tasted the strength of sweat
For they belong together I thought of them
Whose lives and fields have been swept away by the rain
Oh our hearts are heavy tonight But they! Who will find a way to keep the hearth burning
Will pick up from their brokenness and fortify the community too
For they belong together
Soon they will reconcile with the defeat
For they know it is meaningless to resist its fury
But allow them to rage instead
For they know they don’t own the earth
They only belong together When their toil is over
Their hoe hung and the hearth grow quiet And to dust they return
The earth will embrace them without repel
For it will recognize them by their songs and stories shared for years
The mountains and hills will testify for them
For they belonged together I want to be them
