Parliamentary Secretary for Housing, Treasuries & Account Vikho-o Yhoshu today challenged the students to think higher, broader and deeper to march ahead in this competitive world.
Addressing the valedictory session of the 25th biennial general conference of the Angami Students Union (ASU) here this evening, Yhoshu challenged ASU to think and provide the best ideas, saying that the Angamis must provide the initiative and vision for a common future which will be viable, vibrant and principle –based.
Referring to the conference theme “Embracing a new thinking,” he hoped that the conference would make a real difference in the history of the ASU, and not just mere theoretical talks, but in practical terms. As we live on, he said, “We must grow; we must change well, change for better and move forward.” Yhoshu also stated that serious measures or proposals for electoral reforms must take place to save society.
He stated that the present practice of the secret ballot, with all its benifits is leading all levels of society to corrupt practices. “Something better must evolve, otherwise we all are only fighting lost battles,” he said. On the Chief Minister’s suggestion that “we go to our traditional Naga way of electing or selecting leaders,” Yhoshu said “This is possible as there are enough special provisions for the Nagas.”
In this, he asked if ASU can take the challenge and initiate proposals on this reform.
The parliamentary secretary also stated that he was personally encouraged to see young people today who are open minded without prejudices and who are inquisitive, fast learning and progressive. “You are on the right track. Keep it up. Don’t let cynics or skeptics succeed. Do good to overcome evil,” he encouraged the students.
Meanwhile, the Election Commission Convenor, Neizokhotuo Belho announced the new Executive Council of the Angami Students’ Union (ASU) for the tenure 2013-15, which included, President Zakie Khate, Vice President Viraseto Neikha, General Secretary Sedevikho Angami, Assistant General Secretary Vizosielie Rupreo, Finance Secretary Ketholetuo Angami, Sports Secretary Mhasimhalie Yhome, Information & Press Secretary Khriezelhou Vitso, Auditor General Kelevi Tsukru, Literature Secretary Medoneisa Chadi, Education Secretary Tsi-u Seyie and Treasurer Mekhrielie Krose.
